On April 27, 2022, the Congregation of the Faculty of Education of Unicamp approved the operation of the Faculty of Education's Welcome Space. The purpose of the Welcome Space, as its name suggests, is to provide initial welcome and guidance to members of the FE's internal community who voluntarily seek it out in search of a solution to a problem or difficulty. It will be up to the host to identify the nature of the problem and provide information on possible solutions to the situation. It is worth noting that the matters discussed in the Welcome Space, between the host and the member of the community who seeks it, are addressed impartially and protected by confidentiality.
This work seeks to humanize the first contact with the person, serving them efficiently and impartially and acting preliminarily and in partnership with Unicamp's care and assistance departments. It is also not therapeutic or psychological care, which would go beyond the functions of the Reception Center. If the need for this type of care is perceived, the host will know how to refer the person to the appropriate service.
In the current context, in which discourses of intolerance and hate flourish, a space like this is also a form of struggle and resistance, which seeks to counter these discourses and foster the construction of relationships based on empathy, dialogue and the creation of a culture of caring for one another.
The culture of care aims precisely to promote coexistence in diversity, in a respectful and healthy way, so that these differences can be freely expressed and freely taken as an object of reflection and debate by everyone, without any type of constraint.
It is also important to consider, above all, the effects of the pandemic on people's health, the trauma caused by losses and, above all, the grief experienced by teaching and non-teaching staff and students, which may impact the ongoing return to in-person classes. Given this situation, it is even more urgent to offer the community some institutional support to help them face any difficulties that may arise.
Welcome to the Reception Area, operating in Annex II of the FE.
