Objectives and History

Objectives

The Postgraduate Program in Education at the State University of Campinas is based at the Faculty of Education, which also hosts the Pedagogy Course, the Integrated Degree in Physics and Chemistry, in addition to offering subjects for the other 13 degree courses at the university.

The Postgraduate Program in Education aims to train, at the master's and doctoral level, researchers, teachers and managers to work directly or indirectly with all levels and modalities of the educational system in Brazil and in Latin American countries. To achieve this objective, the program has also offered lato sensu postgraduate courses, specialization modality, in various areas of the educational field, in addition to receiving Brazilian and foreign researchers to carry out their postdoctoral internships, under the supervision of program teachers and in direct contact with our research groups.

The PPGE/FE has significant relevance on the national and international scene, both for the political and theoretical-scientific militancy of its research team, as well as for its academic production and recognized leadership in the Brazilian and Latin American educational community. It has a strong internationalization policy, being a reference for interfaces, agreements, exchanges and joint research projects with groups, laboratories and institutions in Brazil, Latin America, Europe, Africa and North America, expressing its excellence as a Postgraduate Program in Education.

History

The UNICAMP School of Education was established in August 1972, beginning with the offering of pedagogical subjects that make up the Undergraduate Curriculum. In 1974, the Pedagogy Course began, with the purpose of training teachers for the initial grades of elementary school and qualifying professionals for School Administration, School Supervision, Educational Guidance and teaching in Preschool and Special Education. In August 1975, the implementation of the stricto sensu Postgraduate Program in Education began, initially with the progressive creation of the Master's Course in Education in the five Areas of Concentration existing at the time, which corresponded to the five departments – Philosophy and History of Education, Educational Administration and Supervision, Educational Psychology, Social Sciences Applied to Education and Teaching Methodology -; and later, in 1980, with the implementation of the Doctorate Course in each of these Areas. In 1994, a new interdepartmental Area in Mathematics Education was created, at the Masters and Doctorate levels.

The Postgraduate Program in Education, which includes Master's and Doctorate Courses, was recognized by the Ministry of Education, Ordinance MEC 1461/95 of November 29, 1995, having been recommended by CAPES in all its evaluations.

In June 1998, the Congregation of the Faculty of Education approved a proposal for reformulation that included the transformation of departmental Areas of Concentration into thematic Areas of Concentration of an interdisciplinary nature and defining different fields of investigation that bring together several Research Groups with similar interests. Eight thematic areas were then created. In 8, a new reformulation transformed the eight thematic areas into six areas of concentration, again equivalent to the departments that make up the Faculty of Education. As of 2005, with the restructuring of the PPGE into 8 lines of research, these became the organizing axes of the Master's and Doctorate courses of the PPGE/Unicamp, with specific disciplines being offered for each line and general disciplines of theoretical, epistemological and methodological foundation of research related to the educational field that permeate the themes and approaches of the lines of research:

Line 1: Work and Education
Line 2: Education and Social Sciences
Line 3: Education and Cultural History
Line 4: Education in Science, Mathematics and Technologies
Line 5: State, Public Policies and Education
Line 6: Philosophy and History of Education
Line 7: Teacher Training, Curriculum, Teaching Work and Assessment
Line 8: Language and Art in Education
Line 9: Psychology and Education

The demand for admission to the FE/Unicamp Graduate Program has been growing significantly. The number of Master's Dissertations and Doctoral Theses, which has been growing year after year, also attests to the effective expansion of the Program. In addition to the Master's and Doctoral Courses (stricto sensu graduate programs), Specialization Courses (lato sensu graduate programs) have been offered to different professionals, particularly teachers and managers of public education networks.
