FE-Unicamp Readers Club: A Space for Connection and Reflection

Have you ever imagined a place where passion for books meets cultural diversity and reflection? Well, that is exactly what the Unicamp School of Education Readers Club offers.

Have you ever imagined a place where passion for books meets cultural diversity and reflection? Well, that's exactly what Unicamp Faculty of Education Readers' Club offers, and last October, the project began with two meetings in the internal garden of Joel Martins Library where participants talked and presented their impressions and enthusiasm for the book “The House on Mango Street”, by writer Sandra Cisneros.

The club

The idea for the project came from Roberta Rabello Fiolo Pozzuto, manager of the Publications area at the FE Library. Inspired by an experience at the University of Minho, in Portugal, she brought to Unicamp the concept of a reading club that brings together people from different backgrounds to discuss works of various styles and themes. “The goal is to use literature as a vector of knowledge, promoting reflection and critical thinking. Literature helps us dream and broadens our worldview.”, says the manager.

For Roberta, this would be a space for exchange, reflection and personal growth, which seeks to connect people and promote a rich and diverse literary experience. The Club is part of a series of actions developed at the FE Library that aim to spread culture, the taste for reading and greater contact with the community both internally and externally.

How it works?

Participation is completely voluntary and open to everyone. To register, simply fill out an online form, which will add the interested party to email and WhatsApp groups, facilitating the dissemination of the works and meetings.

The meetings will preferably be held in the FE Library spaces, reinforcing the concept of “Living Library”, which goes beyond being just a space linked to studies and academic work.

Participation is free for all

Various Genres and Authors

Works from a wide range of literary genres will be read and discussed, in order to provide participants with the rich experience of coming into contact with multiple styles. Participants will have the opportunity to read, reread and get to know authors from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and nationalities, whether they are well-known or not, whether they have won awards or not.

The chosen book will be available in the university's collection and on the free digital platform BibliOn, so that everyone can access it, and it will be chosen as the recommended reading for the month. At the end of the period, participants will meet to discuss the work. The mediator will lead the conversation, encouraging dialogue and the exchange of ideas in a light and enjoyable way.

Celebration of Black Protagonism

In November, Black Awareness Month, FE Readers Club celebrates black protagonism through the work “Heaven for bastards” by Lilia Guerra. This work, published by Editora Todavia, portrays the reality of the Brazilian people with sensitivity, sympathy and humanity. With a touching narrative, the book explores the complexities and challenges of a domestic worker in the outskirts of São Paulo, revealing the strength and resilience of the residents of Brazilian communities.
