FE Congregation approves support for motion to suspend agreement with Technion

The Congregation of the Faculty of Education (FE) approved support for a motion by the Unicamp Free Palestine Committee, which requests the suspension of the agreement with the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) for humanitarian reasons.

At its 396th Ordinary Meeting, held on September 24, 2025, the Congregation of the Faculty of Education (FE) decided to approve support for the motion produced by the Unicamp Free Palestine Committee, which requests the suspension of the agreement signed between Unicamp and the Israel Institute of Technology, known as Technion..

The motion justifies the suspension request on humanitarian grounds and moral values. The document argues that the Technion is integrated into the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) and focuses on weapons development. It cites excerpts from researcher Maya Wind to assert that the Technion "not only facilitated the birth of the Israeli military industry but also continues to support the international sales of these weapons."

The motion's text also emphasizes that, since its formalization in August 2023, the agreement has seen "no development in terms of scientific or any other kind of cooperation," which demonstrates that it merely "reinforces Unicamp's political and institutional ties with an institution deeply involved in the destructive policies of the Israeli Armed Forces." The motion emphasizes that the decision to sever the relationship is not based on the Technion being an Israeli institution, but rather on humanitarian grounds and the values of Unicamp, which seeks to defend democratic freedoms and peaceful coexistence worldwide.
