The Faculty of Education of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), through its Board of Directors and its academic community, publicly expresses its concern and repudiation of the recent measures adopted by the Municipal Government of São Paulo, which resulted in the summary dismissal of principals of 31 schools in the Municipal Education Network, based exclusively on results from the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb).
In the document, research groups warn of the risks of adopting authoritarian and meritocratic policies that disregard the social, cultural and educational contexts of school communities.
The Faculty of Education of Unicamp reaffirms its commitment to public, free, secular, inclusive, socially just and democratically managed schools. We repudiate all forms of authoritarian intervention that disrespect the legal and democratic processes of selection and performance of school administrators, as well as educational policies that reduce the complexity of education to simplified metrics, used as mechanisms of coercion.
