Postgraduate Study Program in Education (PPGE) of the Faculty of Education of UNICAMP (FE/Unicamp/Brazil)

The Programa de Estudios de Postgrado en Educación (PPGE) is the mayor of the FE/Unicamp/Brazil and, probably, the mayor of the Education Area in Brazil and Latin America. In 2016, it had 119 accredited teachers, divided into 89 permanent teachers and 30 collaborators; 586 students, 226 in Masters and 360 in Doctorates. In terms of importance for the area, we can mention the amount of academic bibliographic production recorded between 2013 and 2016, both by teachers and students, comprising: 836 articles published in national and international magazines; 1087 productions in books (enters, chapters, organizations, prefaces and entries); including 1.186 publications in Congressional Anales.

PPGE / FE has significant relevance in the national and international panorama, both for the political and theoretical-scientific performance of researchers, and for its academic production and recognized leadership in the Brazilian and Latin American educational community. It has a strong internationalization policy, being a reference to interfaces, agreements, exchanges and joint research projects with groups, laboratories and institutions in Brazil, Latin America, Europe, Africa and North America, expressing its excellence as a Postgraduate Studies Program in Education.

As of 2013, with the restructuring of the PPGE in 10 areas of research, these have been converted into the organization of the Masters and Doctorates of the PPGE/Unicamp, and specific disciplines are offered for each line and general themes of theoretical, epistemological and methodological foundations of research related to the field of education that is referring to several themes and approaches to research lines:

Line 1: CURRICULUM, EVALUATION AND ENSEÑANZA

Includes studies and investigations on the curriculum, evaluation and education in its social, political and cultural relationships. It has as an object of investigation (1) formal education in basic and higher education, and (2) non-formal education.

Line 2: EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

This line of research deals with education from different theoretical and methodological perspectives of social sciences. The training of researchers and educators in this line is through interdisciplinary dialogues in different fields and research themes.

Line 3: EDUCATION AND CULTURAL HISTORY

This line of investigation develops work within the theoretical and methodological perspective of cultural history and discusses different objects and themes in the field of education in two dimensions: (1) the educational institution with its rhythms, times and spaces, its knowledge and practices; (2) education as a cultural process that implies the insertion of individuals and groups in different areas of public life aiming at research in the field of health, gender and sexuality, different expressions and representations of the body, arts, among others. It also deals with educational research as a manifestation of power and against the powers of institutions and different social groups.

Line 4: SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

It includes studies and investigations related to: the field of Education in Science, Mathematics and Technology understood as cultural practices from historical, philosophical and sociopolitical perspectives; the different approaches in the field of language; professional, curricular and pedagogical development in this field.

Line 5: STATE, PUBLIC POLICIES AND EDUCATION

Includes local, national and international studies and investigations of analysis of public education policies (formulation, implementation and educational evaluation), administration of education and educational systems, with emphasis on the relationship between the State and Society, planning, evaluation, legislation, financing, management thereof basic education and comparative education in its different stages (childhood education, primary and secondary school) and higher education, the modalities of teaching (youth and adult education and professional education), as well as cultural networks and forms of organization between civil society and political society.

Line 6: PHILOSOPHY AND HISTORY OF EDUCATION

It includes studies and research on education, carried out from a historical and philosophical perspective. Preserving the relative autonomy of each of these fields of knowledge, in their plurality, they are sought in an articulated way in the knowledge and discussion of education, both in their historical context in light of their ethical, political and epistemological assumptions.

Line 7: TEACHER TRAINING AND TEACHING WORK

This line of investigation is based on its themes having as a principle the action of teaching/educating and its implications for the training of teachers and its policies; in the production of knowledge and knowledge; in memory practices and stories; in the work and in the teaching profession in contexts of formal education (basic and higher) and non-formal education in perspective for all.

Line 8: LANGUAGE AND ART IN EDUCATION

Includes studies and investigations on connections and/or relationships in Language and Art in different educational contexts, understood in their methodological and thematic dimensions. Approach to multiple aspects that were thought and materialized in both practices – such as reading, writing, literature, visual and corporeal arts, cinema – as well as the meanings and perceptions of the plurality and interdependence of languages ​​in contemporary times, considering Art and Language as productive potentials difference in education.

Line 9: PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATION

Includes studies on psychological processes involved in educational, social and cultural phenomena with a view to development and learning.

Line 10: WORK AND EDUCATION

Studies and investigations that analyze the relationship between work and education, using as theoretical reference human and social sciences such as sociology, anthropology, political science, history, economics, social and labor psychology. Its main object of study is the relationship between work and education in its multiple dimensions: public policies related to work and education; the social and international division of labor; the labor market and its dynamics; the organization, management and working conditions, as well as the characteristics of the job; moral harassment and bullying; subjectivity, identity and worker health; training actions in school and non-school spaces; professions and occupations; social movements, work and education; employees; the relationships of class, gender, ethnicity and generation.
